York Festival of Ideas 2023

On Monday 12th June, our very own Claire CarswellDIAMONDS Research Fellow, chaired a panel discussion on the topic of Reimagining Healthcare: Treating the body and mind at the York Festival of Ideas.

We also heard from people with lived experience of severe mental illness and chronic conditions - service users, carers and healthcare professionals - Panellists included Gary Hellewell and Alison Potts both members of DIAMONDS VoiceLina Gega a Professor of Mental Health at Hull York Medical School and the Director of the Institute of Mental Health Research at the University of York and Ramsha Hussain, a mental health nurse in a female acute inpatient ward and DIAMONDS coach working to deliver the DIAMONDS Intervention.

York Biomedical Research Institute and the Institute of Mental Health Research at York's Event.

On Wednesday 10th May, Jen Brown, DIAMONDS programme managerpresented at the York Biomedical Research Institute and the Institute of Mental Health Research at York's event on Biomedical Research and Neuroscience applied to mental health. Jen discussed the challenges and opportunities for using biomedical data in applied healthcare research. Her presentation focused on the use of continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for people who have severe mental illness and type two diabetes. She highlighted some key findings and plans from her PhD research, including how the CGM monitors were seen as a helpful reminder for participants about their diabetes, and how future research could work with service users to ensure that people can receive personalised and accessible information about their own health.

Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's annual Research Forum 2023.

On Thursday 16th March, Jen Brown, DIAMONDS programme managerpresented at the Leeds and York Partnership NHS Foundation Trust's annual Research Forum 2023.

The annual forum is a celebration of research. Sharing the outputs of research, information about
ongoing research and related topics and providing an opportunity for attendees to discuss interests and ambitions around research. 

Jen spoke about some of the most exciting parts of DIAMONDS, and how we are really pushing the boundaries of what is possible within research.

​Jen was also joined by Gary one of our DIAMONDS Voice members who talked about his experiences with research, and described what it was like working on the DIAMONDS Programme and, Shaun one of our DIAMONDS Coaches who discussed his experience taking on the role of a DIAMONDS Coach, and how important research is to improving healthcare.

The Challenges and Complexities of Studies in Multiple Long Term Conditions.

On 01st February our research fellow Claire Carswell presented DIAMONDS at "The Challenges and Complexities of Studies in Multiple Long Term Conditions" a Northern LCRN collaborative event.

The event was hosted by the four NIHR Local Clinical Research Networks in the North of England; CRN North East and North Cumbria, CRN North West Coast, CRN Yorkshire and Humber and CRN Greater Manchester.

The event focused on multiple long-term condition research. Claire discussed the challenges of research and the difference that PPIE, involving service users & carers, can make in overcoming those challenges.
